The EarthWatch Research Institute is an idea that was born out of the publication of EarthWatch Magazine, the first professional magazine in Nigeria solely devoted to issues of environment and sustainable development (the nation’s foremost HSE & Sustainable Development Magazine) and the EarthWatch Conference on Water & Sanitation.
In 2001 Cookey Environmental and Public Health Services (CEPHS) began the publication of EarthWatch Magazine. Part of the activities of the magazine was the organization of the EarthWatch Conference on Water and Sanitation which brought together industry, academia, government, NGOs and others to tackle issues on water supply and sanitation in the country.
Over the years, the magazine and the conference have gathered a following with request for a membership organization. However, the founders of the EarthWatch dream felt that more than a membership association was required. We needed to establish an institute that will make members activities contributors on a regular basis.
